Esmolol is a medication used to lower heart rate and blood pressure.

Function

Esmolol is used in the case of severe tachycardia and hypertension, as a beta-blocker it performs both functions by lowering the force of heart contractions.

Esmolol is administered intravenously with a rapid onset, short peak and duration.

Esmolol has no effect if administered intramuscularly.

Usage

The Use Syringe action is available on the Torso and Limbs in the Medication Tab

The Push Esmolol action is available on the Torso and Limbs in the Medication Tab

Medications require a Syringe to be able to be drawn and administered.

IV access is achieved with IV Catheters or IO devices.

Dosing

Push 0.25-0.5mg/kg IV, depending on required effect
